Approach & Specialty

I. Chiropractic

Chiropractic is the fastest growing healthcare choice before drugs or surgery. There are approximately 55,000 chiropractors in the United States, 71% of which are in solo practice.

Chiropractic is a branch of the healing arts which is based upon the understanding that wellness depends, in part, upon a normally functioning nervous system especially the spine and the nerves extending from the spine to all parts of the body.  It stresses the idea that the cause of many disease processes begins with the body's inability to adapt to its environment. It looks to address these diseases not by the use of drugs and chemicals, but by locating and correcting an area of the body, which is functioning improperly.

  1. Chiropractic utilizes hands-on care to assist the body in reaching and maintaining its natural state of health. This is accomplished by affecting the body's biomechanical, neurological, and physiological systems. Chiropractors provide three essential services to the community:

A safe, effective, and conservative (non-pharmacological, non-surgical) method for the relief and/or prevention of pain arising from the neuromusculoskeletal systems (muscles, nerves, bones, and joints).
  2. The correction of abnormal function of the neuromusculoskeletal system, preventing the recurrence of a disorder and maintaining the health of the individual through the use of spinal manipulation, a specialty not practiced by any other health care provider.
  3. The detection and correction of potential health problems prior to their occurrence through the chiropractic examination which includes an in-depth orthopedic, neurological, and physical examination

Dr. Dunphy uses a standard procedure of examination to diagnose a patient's condition and arrive at a course of treatment and uses the same time-honored methods of consultation, case history, physical examination, laboratory analysis, and x-ray examination as any other doctor.  In addition, Dr. Dunphy provides a careful chiropractic structural examination, paying particular attention to the spine.

Dr. Dunphy practices with an emphasis on nutritional and exercise programs, wellness and lifestyle modifications for promoting physical and mental health.  While Dr. Dunphy makes no use of drugs or surgery, she does advocate referral to medical care providers when those interventions are indicated. Chiropractors, medical doctors, physical therapists, and other health care professionals work as partners in occupational health, sports medicine, and a wide variety of other rehabilitation practices.

II. Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a Chinese art that has been used for centuries and utilizes the insertion of fine needles at a specific point or points to eliminate or modify the perception of pain and to normalize physiological function in accordance with the principles of Oriental Medicine.

Dr. Dunphy will utilize acupuncture as a sole method of treatment and in conjunction with chiropractic care.

III. Trigger Point/Myofascial Therapy

This type of muscular therapy allows for the removal of muscle knots and tension that develops over time as a result of stress, poor posture and biomechanics, or poor dietary and lifestyle habits, or as a result of recent injury. This type of therapy releases muscle tension directly through muscle fiber lengthening and through the removal of toxins that build up as a result of stress. Healthy, balanced musculature also allows the spine to maintain its state of optimal function.

IV. Herbal and Nutritional Therapy

Use of botanical and nutritional products will be utilized to strengthen and assist the body in recovery and improve the structure and function of the body.
